Presentation:

TECHNE- is an international conference on digital technology that takes place between 17 and 22 April in Istanbul.

The platform is intended to promote the field of digital technology in Istanbul and to create a new network of collaboration in the European periphery. It is therefore, designed to offer the possibility of presenting, and a platform for discussion and exchange of knowledge and ideas.

TECHNE will host 35 researchers from 10 different countries.

The programme includes an exhibition of interactive installations, performances, workshops, seminars, presentations and working groups.

Three working groups are organized in collaboration with the European Cultural Association (www.forum.europist.net ) within IETM-Istanbul ( www.ietm.org ) that takes place in 19-23 April, and one other is organized with the collaboration of Scott deLahunta and the ICA (London).

The theme of TECHNE is “Designing Perception”:

The developments in the fields of robotics, biotechnology and informatics provided extensions for humans. The perception has become the object of design. We are thus, in a critical phase in the history of mankind, in terms of how to design the perception and how to evolve through the future.

Key questions around the theme are:

- What are the problematic issues in designing perception?
- In what way, does the extended body lead to new perceptions?
- How do these new technologies contribute to our self perception?
- How does interactivity play a role in the design of perception?
- How are above questions perceived and responded in different cultures?
